Florida Governor Vetoes Education Reform

Here’s an example of how powerful labor unions can be and how difficult it may be to get government out of the role of education.  The Florida governor vetoed a bill that would have brought a lot more accountability to teachers, and more importantly, it would have eliminated tenure for all new hires.  It’s astonishing that teachers and labor union lobbyist can honestly say they have children’s interest anywhere in their agenda when they insist that teachers work without being held accountable for their performance or fear of losing their job.  I cannot think of any private sector job where one works with such comfortable job-security.  In short it’s just another example of showing how government does things so poorly.
